Good News for The Pew People

So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners,  but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God,  built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone. Through him, the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord; in him, you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

In spite of all of the bad news coming out about the Church, in spite of the clerical sex scandal and the cover-up attempted by members of Church management, besides the black eye that the Bride of Christ is sporting because of the unspeakable sins and the lack of good judgment shown by those who are supposed to lead us, there is good news for those of us who dwell in the pew. *

*Historical Note:
(The above is the longest sentences I have ever written - it kind of makes you think of Hemmingway and his "sprinkle commas here and there" style.)

The historical significance of the last sentence aside, there really is some good news that we Pew People can latch on to and that is simply a reminder that Jesus is the capstone of the Church. His strength is unbeatable, His love for His bride is a faithfulness that cannot be broken.  It is not the Pope's Church, it does not belong to the Curia or any of the many congregations that reside in the Vatican. The Church is now and always has been the property of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and who has promised us that it will endure until the day He returns for us.

So, do not do anything rash that will affect your spiritual life.  The scandal of the moment shall pass and the fact is that Jesus and the Holy Spirit will see to it that we come out of this stronger than ever.  Do not despair.  Jesus is there and He will hold His Church together.

Please remember the Poor Souls in Purgatory.  They long for the day when they will be welcomed into the kingdom and you can hasten that day by prayers and sacrifices.  Pray for your dead by name.  Do not forget the millions of Protestant souls stuck in Purgatory without anyone to pray for them.  Remember, today you are here among the living.  Who knows where you will be tomorrow?
