How To Win Friends and Influence People

Jesus summoned the twelve and said to them, "You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones make their authority over them felt.  But it shall not be so among you. rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.  For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Can you imagine a world where we are falling over each other trying to serve one another?  It would be great if we all developed the heart of a servant, wouldn't it?   Think of all of the problems that would be solved if we banished selfishness and greed and replaced it with self-sacrifice and generosity!  I can hear you asking, "What planet is Michael the Lesser living on now?"

I know full well that we do not have a world that is inhabited by those with a servant's heart.  As a matter of fact, most of us are forever looking for people to serve us in various capacities. This is okay. For example, I cannot see myself trying to figure out how to fix the fliberjam on my car nor would I attempt to tar my roof.  So, calling on servants is okay, expected, and how our economy works.  But, have you ever thought of stepping out of your comfort zone and becoming the servant to another?  There are so many opportunities to help others that need it.  There are PADS shelters that need volunteers to help out serving the homeless for example but you need not restrict yourself to formal, institutional opportunities. You can buy groceries and donate them to a food pantry, for example.  You can donate used clothing for those in need. There are just so many opportunities out there where you can use your built-in servant's heart to serve. Use your eyes and your heart and you WILL find where your talent at being a servant is needed.

The thing to remember is that when we act as a servant to another, that other person is Christ, we do things for and to Him so our generosity serves He who loves us so much that He went to the cross for us.  That is how much of a servant the Son of God was.

Pray for the Poor Souls in Purgatory, they will appreciate it very much.
