Seek good and not evil,

that you may live;

Then truly will the LORD, the God of hosts,

be with you as you claim!

Hate evil and love good,

and let justice prevail at the gate;

Then it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts,

will have pity on the remnant of Joseph.

I love the United States of America.  It is the land of my birth.  I am proud of how in the past, America has been a shining beacon of freedom that has been so bright that other countries have tried to emulate us.  It was the power of the United States that through two world wars preserved the world from being taken over by tyrants. The people that lived here, our friends and neighbors, had a different perspective on the world than we have today.  We protected those that could not protect themselves.  We exported freedom and were very generous even to those who once opposed us through force of arms, actually helping former enemies rebuild their countries and we did so without asking for return. 

The America I live in today is quite a different place than it was back then.  We sing loudly, "God bless America" but everywhere we chase Him away stating that He has no place as we have a separation of church and state. 

We have two political parties.  While in the spoken word there is a difference between the two parties, in actuality neither of them care too much for the people of the United States.  Their job, as they see it, is not to govern, not to make just and proper laws for the protection of all, it is rather to keep themselves in power and to block the other party.  They come together and swift action can be assured if they decide to raise their pay or provide another benefit to the holders of the office.  

But it is not just the politicians that have changed.  We the people have changed as well. We used to believe that life was sacred and almost every one of us knew that abortion was wrong and that assisted suicide was still just self-service murder.  Today, there are those that no longer consider the child in the womb to be a living soul and champion the cause for scraping and vacuuming the child from the womb if the woman chooses this procedure under the guise of "woman's health."  Today, move to certain states and a physician will prescribe drugs for you so that you can end your life.   People fail to see that  life is a God-given gift and is not to be ended by man because we cannot restore it.  

We sing and ask God to bless America but we delude ourselves if we think He will do this with the attitudes and morals that we have today.  My fellow Catholic Christians, pray for America and her future.  Pray that we awake and renew before it is too late.
